VERIFIED GROSS MASS - New SOLAS container weight regulation
With the introduction of the amendments to SOLAS regulations, effective July 1, 2016, the responsibility for the submission of the VGM (Verified Gross Mass) lies with the shipper. For Alianca and other carriers where we arrange the bookings on behalf of our shippers we will submit the VGM in the shipping lines own systems respectively with their own methods and deadlines.
To obtain the VGM (Verified Gross Mass) you have the following two options:
Method 1 - Weighing:
Weigh the packed and sealed container, note certification requirements according to state regulation. If weighing is to be arranged at a terminal or third party weighing station a fee may occur.
Method 2 - Calculating:
Weigh all packages, cargo items, mass of pallets, dunnage, packing and securing material packed in the container and add the tare mass of the container. Tare weight can be found on the container door or you can ask us for assistance.
The VGM must be sent to us together with the Bill of Lading instructions in due time before shipment. VGM should be noted separately in kilograms and will not be shown on the Bill of Lading.
Deadlines for each carrier will be shared during the booking process. Please note if VGM is not sent within deadlines it may result in non loading on the feeder vessel.
